John Witlock Radford

The early John Whitlock Radford and Thomas Morgan families in America intermarried, forming the beginning of our Morgan/Radford clan
Above is a portrait of John Whitlock Radford, probably taken before, but not too long before, he left Utah to go to Wyoming in 1888.

Above: John Whitlock Radford (1814-1889), and Rachel Leah Smith (Ross) Radford (1822-1894). This picture was probably taken at the time of their wedding in 1845. This picture looks like a cross between a photograph and a painting because it is a tintype (photograph on a tin plate) that has been hand colored.
Rachel Leah Smith first married Andrew Jackson Ross in Tennessee in 1838. To this marriage was born James Richard Ross (1839) and Melvin Ross (1842). Andrew Jackson Ross was killed in 1843 when he was thrown from a load of timber while coming down out of the Tennesse mountains.
Rachel Leah Smith married John Whitlock Radford in 1845 in Illinois.
