Unidentified Pictures

Some pictures are just too beautiful to leave unidentified. Others can be observed at first glance to be classics or important pictures. This page contains links to pictures that we would love to know more about.

This picture of Sonny Morgan was found in a collection of pictures that belong to Earl Morgan's son Ron Morgan. It has "Sonny Morgan" written on it.
Because of where this picture was found we can say with some assurance that Sonny Morgan was in the downline of Edward (Ted) Morgan. The photograph looks a lot like the kind of portraits that were made up for promotional purposes by people looking for work in the movies in Hollywood. So we have speculated that Sonny Morgan was possibly in California looking for work as an actor when this portrait was made. But we don't know whose son he was. Ervin (Ruff) Morgan (son of Edward Thomas Morgan) lived in California and had a son, Ervin Edward Morgan who died in Los Angeles in 1971. So Sonny could have been Ervin's son.

When this picture was found in a Morgan/Radford picture collection by a group of experienced family history researchers, the first reaction of everyone was that "this is an important picture."
However, no one knows who these people are. So, we are putting this picture on the morganclan.com website in hope someone who looks at it will recognize someone in this picture and help us with it.

This picture easily exemplifies the purity and innocence that, in today's popular culture, has all too often faded into our past
Even though this picture was found in a Morgan/Radford/Ross collection, we only know two of these young ladies. The woman front right is Sadie Geneva Radford (1898-1968), daughter of John William Radford and his wife Julia Elizabeth Ross Radford. She has a wedding ring on her finger and the white dresses may indicate a special occasion, perhaps her marriage to Roland Durrant in 1916 or an LDS temple session. The other woman sitting in front is Josephine (Josie) Howard.

The woman in the picture has been identified as Harriet Neeley Strong, wife of William Strong. She was born 10 Sept 1839 in Quincy (or Nauvoo), Hancock, Illinois. She died 28 December 1923 at Ucon (Willow Creek), Bonneville Idaho. Her parents are Lewis Neeley and Elizabeth Miller. She married William Strong 17 Apr 1856, Salt Lake City Utah. William Strong died in 1888.
Harriet Neeley Strong was the mother of Mary Lodema Strong Dodge. Frank and Mary Dodge homesteaded in Willow Creek (Ucon) in 1890. Frank and Mary had followed Mary's older sister's family to Idaho. Another sister, Emmeline, and her husband Nathan Freeman came and homesteaded in the Milo area in 1892. Harriet Neeley Strong's husband died in 1888 and in 1894 Harriet moved to Idaho where her daughters had settled. Harriet moved to Willow Creek (Ucon) Idaho and homesteaded 160 acres to get land for her three youngest boys.

LIFE SKETCH FOR HARRIET NEELEY STRONG by Rebecca Freeman

Because it was found with an old picture of John Franklin and Priscilla Morgan Radford, and was taken at the same studio, presumably at the same time, these have to be children of a Morgan/Radford family.

We are hoping someone will see this picture and recognize someone in it.

From an Idaho Radford Collection in Ririe Idaho

This couple look like they got married and lived happily ever after, eh? We don't know they are.

Unknown Couple Possibly Canadian

An unknown couple from the collection of Malcolm and Nelda Sharp in Canada

We hope someone can help us identify this distinguished couple. The picture came from a collection in Calgary, Alberta.

Unknown Idaho Group
These two pictures were found in Bonnie Johnson Hill/Julia Elizabeth Ross Radford collection in Ririe, Idaho

These picture were found in a large collection of pictures started by Julia Elizabeth Ross Radford, added to by her daughter Sadie Geneva Radford Durrant, and passed on to Sadie Geneva Radford Durrants granddaughter Bonnie Johnson Hill. So it is reasonable to conclude that the people in this picture lived in the Ririe/Shelton area of Idaho.

Old Man With White Beard

A group picture found in a John Thomas Morgan family picture collection

We first thought Josephine Fogg Morgan, wife of John Thomas Morgan, was in this picture. But now we don't think so. And we don't know anyone else in the picture.

Unknown Holden family

This picture was found in the collection of a Morgan/Ryset descendant in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. There is a small town in Utah named Holden, near Fillmore. There was a John Holden in our Morgan history who was the first husband of Sarah Lovina Ross.

This picture is perhaps called a "halfway" picture. One of the largest problems with old pictures is that the owners, who know who is in the picture, do not write the names on the picture. They know who is in the picture and, we suppose they must think, therefore they don't need to write the names on the picture. Consequently, many days, months, years of research are sometimes necessary to figure out who is in the old pictures. And the old pictures that are not named are more likely than not lost once the people who know who is in them passes away. When people don't know who is in an old picture they throw it away or sell it on eBay. Now this picture is, as I have said, a "halfway" picture. The owner wrote on it "Holden's...Mary Irene..Carl...Dad...Mom." So we know the young girl in the picture is Mary Irene Holden and the dog in the picture is Carl but we don't know mom and dad's names. Whoever wrote this knew who mom and dad were so they didn't feel the need to write their names on the picture. And us poor overworked family history researchers just sigh and keep working.
